Sue Dennis

Sue is a Director in the Tax Advisory department of the London office. Sue has extensive experience of advising on UK personal taxes and she specialises in property and Stamp Taxes, primarily Stamp Duty Land Tax, the Scottish Land and Buildings Transaction Tax, Welsh Land Transaction Tax, and Stamp Duty.

Sue is a member of the Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group at the Chartered Institute of Taxation and she is the co-ordinator of Saffery Property Forum Group.

Since joining Saffery in 2018 Sue has assisted Adam Kay to build the firm’s Stamp Taxes practice advising on commercial, residential and mixed-use land transactions for individuals, corporates, partnerships and trusts, including assisting with HMRC enquiries. Sue works closely with all Partners nationally to provide exceptional client service and she builds close relationships with her clients and their external advisers identifying and resolving key issues in property transactions.


Key experience

  • Advising housebuilder companies and partnerships on all aspects of SDLT relating to building projects, including structuring purchases to qualify for available reliefs, mitigating liabilities, managing the timing of payment obligations and establishing exit strategies,
  • Providing Stamp Duty and SDLT due diligence for the acquisition of property investment companies and of direct property purchases,
  • Structuring the acquisition of an apartment block for a UK non-resident and non-domiciled family,
  • Advising investment and trading partnerships, in particular those involving landed estates and associated trusts, regarding the SDLT consequences arising from IHT estate planning for land interests.

Interests

Sue is married and has three wonderful children. When not involved with family life Sue is an enthusiastic horsewoman and she is currently working at progressing through the British Dressage levels with her talented mare.
