In the Cayman Islands, the ethos of ‘life, done differently’ extends to business. The perfect balance of business-friendly simplicity and strong legal frameworks, the Cayman Islands is a popular jurisdiction of choice, where transparency meets trust.
Why the Cayman Islands?
As a tax neutral jurisdiction classified as a British overseas territory, Cayman benefits from a political and parliamentary relationship with the UK, while operating under the Caribbean court system.
This structure allows for legislative flexibility, which has seen the development of a practical and robust trust law. Cayman has demonstrated strong consistency in its court rulings, offering assurances to clients that their expectations for the management of their wealth will be diligently met.
Our journey in the Cayman Islands
As a completely independent service provider, we have the freedom to explore all avenues which will expand the depth and breadth of our client service offering. In Cayman, we recognised an opportunity to expand our offering for our clients by providing access to a jurisdiction with a great infrastructure, highly qualified staff and advisors and a tried and tested legislative system. Cayman as a jurisdiction is particularly beneficial to clients from Latin America, Canada United States and the Far East in addition to the Middle East.
We have a comprehensive understanding, and experience of, Cayman’s robust legal framework, which we utilised in our successful attainment of a blessing from the Grand Court of our momentous decision for the distribution of high-value and complex trust assets in accordance with Shari’a Law.
With over 20 years’ experience establishing and administering Cayman trusts and companies, we established a Cayman offering in 2020 as a registered controlled subsidiary of a licensed Cayman trust company to consolidate our existing business undertakings in the region After operating for a further two years, we received regulatory approval from the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority for the acquisition of Holdun Trust (Cayman) Limited, which became Saffery Trust (Cayman) Limited. Since 2022 our Cayman Islands team has more than tripled in size.
Our commitment to Cayman
With responsible business standing as a cornerstone of the Saffery Trust ethos, we are dedicated to supporting the communities in which we operate.
In the Cayman Islands, we partner with local businesses at every opportunity, including to supply eco-friendly give-away products at the STEP Cayman Conference, plants for our office, healthy vegan lunches, and to host our events.
We are also the sponsor of the STEP Cayman NextGen initiative, supporting Caymanian trust and estate professionals in their personal and professional development.
Our Grand Cayman office
Following the continued growth of our team, we relocated to a larger office in the Cayman Technology Center in March 2024.
The office, located in Central George Town, boasts the title of one of the most innovative commercial spaces in the region, with the ability to operate completely off-grid if required. It also integrates both solar and geothermal technologies, aligned with our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint.
Our Cayman office offers a bright, modern space for staff and visitors.
