Saffery Summer Internship “100% worthwhile”

The Saffery Trust Summer Internship has been labelled as “100% worthwhile” by one of the programme’s first participants.

Kate Bain, Thomas Penney, Freya Tardif, and Chelsey Vaudin were awarded placements at the private client firm in Guernsey. The paid internship was open to any student over the age of 16, giving the opportunity to gain invaluable experience at a tier one firm.

Over the four-week placement, the students spent time which each of the teams, including accounting, compliance, digital assets and cryptocurrency, luxury non-standard assets, people and culture, marketing, and tax.

Chelsey, who recently completed her BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business Studies, said the internship gave her perspective on the variety of career options available.

“I applied for the internship as I was hoping to get more of an idea about what I wanted to do for work. I liked the idea of getting to have an insight into different areas within a business and seeing what could suit me.”

“It was really valuable to hear about people’s different career journeys, where they started and how they ended up at Saffery. Hearing people’s thoughts and experiences reassured me about my future and lessened my anxiety about my path in life. I also value my newfound knowledge.”

“Although I was nervous walking around the office and interacting with others at first, I came to really enjoy feeling a part of each team. The internship is 100% worthwhile for gaining knowledge about the industry and also determining what kind of job you could see yourself in in the future.”

The internship was the first of its kind for Saffery in Guernsey. Managing Director, Nick Batiste, said the programme has been a success:

“The extensive variety of our service offering offers a unique opportunity for students to gain experience across multiple different careers within one office. Kate, Tom, Freya, and Chelsey have all been enthusiastic and engaged and made the most of their time at Saffery.”

“We will look to continue the internship in the future, as it was a valuable experience not only for the students, but also for our people, to continue to be successful we must continue to listen, and we welcome the valuable insights and experiences Kate, Tom, Freya, and Chelsey have brought to the internship. I wish them all the best for their next steps.”
