Tony is a Tax Director in our Leeds office, with a wealth of tax advisory and transaction experience.
He specialises in advising entrepreneurs and their companies, search funds, and private equity investors on relevant tax aspects, particularly around acquisitions and disposals.
Tony’s wide ranging expertise includes:
- Advising private companies and their shareholders on the disposal of their business,
- Advising companies looking to restructure, merge or demerge their operations tax efficiently,
- Advising management teams on implementing tax efficient equity incentives (e.g. EMI and growth shares),
- Tax due diligence services also covering search funds and private equity,
- Acquisition tax structuring for search fund transactions.
Tony is a Chartered Tax Advisor and prior to joining Saffery worked in London for a Top 20 firm leading their Transaction Tax team.
Key experience
- Executing a capital reduction demerger for digital transformation business to spin out a valuable trading subsidiary to facilitate third party growth capital into the company,
- Advising management of a pharmaceutical recruitment company on their sale to US private equity investor Orangewood Partners,
- Advising management of a digital marketing company on their £30m investment from LDC,
- Providing tax due diligence and tax structuring advice to numerous search funds transactions, including the market leading Swiss based search fund investor and Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) program provider,
- Successfully negotiated with HMRC that shares under EMI option representing 30% of the share capital of a company retained their tax advantaged status following tax risks identified through buyer due diligence.

Tony is married with a young son and outside of spending time with his family, is a keen golfer and enjoys watching all forms of cricket.
